Landscape painting of a stone wall in Connemara Ireland by Judy McSween
The stone walls we saw in Connemara National Park went on and on. Our tour guide told us that during the famine, Irish people were required to stack the stones and build these walls in order to receive food and wages from the English government. The walls serve no other purpose. The beauty I initially saw became a somber tribute after I learned this.
